Re-usable and Recyclable Shopping Bags

  • Today more and more people are beginning to become more concerned about the earth and environment. One problem that is really affecting the environment today is plastic shopping bags, which is why more and more people are beginning to go with re-usable and recyclable shopping bags that are much better for the environment. There are millions of plastic shopping bags out there today, and just by purchasing these re-usable and recyclable shopping bags, you can do a whole lot to save the environment around you. Here are just a few of the benefits of going with shopping bags that you can use again.

    Save Money

First of all, you’ll find that you can save money when you decide to use re-usable and recyclable shopping bags. There are more and more stores today that are beginning to charge customers a fee for using the plastic shopping bags. Over time these small fees can really add up, especially if you shop for a whole lot of groceries. While you’ll spend a bit more at first for the shopping bags that are recyclable, in the long run you will really end up saving money while helping out the environment at the same time.

    Avoid clogging Landfills

You would probably be amazed at home many plastic shopping bags are out there filing up the landfills. You’ll find that there are actually millions of these bags ending up in landfills and many cities are beginning to have a hard time finding a place to put all their garbage. When you go with re-usable and recyclable shopping bags, you’ll avoid sending all those bags to the landfill.

    Help Control Global Warming

Believe it or not, plastic shopping bags, as well as paper ones, can actually be a contributor to global warming. Paper bags especially can cause problems, since the forests have to be cut down to make more of them. If you want to cut down on the global warming problem today, then you need to start using shopping bags that are re-usable.

Plastic Bags Can Hurt Wildlife and Marine Life

Not only will you find that plastic shopping bags can have a negative affect on the environment and contribute to global warming, but they can hurt both wildlife and marine life as well. There are actually many marine animals and other wildlife that are killed by these plastic bags each year because they get away and end up acting as wildlife killers.

Recycling Plastic Bags is Not Worth It

While you may think that you’ll simply just recycle your plastic grocery bags, you’ll find that this is really not worth it in the long run, since the price of recycling them is huge. It is definitely not financially wise to recycle them, and a better choice is to just stop using them altogether and to use re-usable and recyclable shopping bags instead.

What’s great is that most major grocery store chains, like Walmart, Safeway, Fry’s, and more, are now making their own re-usable shopping bags for their customers to purchase for super cheap (like $1 per bag!).  Or you can buy more generic, yet super cool looking, bags from places like Amazon.com.

This is good idea and something easy to do that everyone can do. We should also try to avoid using the platic bags in the produce section. Even if the fruit and veggies don’t touch your cart, the counter and the cashier, you’re going to wash them no matter what. Resist the urge to feel weird when other customers and the clerk are looking at you like, “What the heck?”
