Job Opening at the South African Marine Predator Lab
-
I just learned of a job opening as a research assistant for the South African Marine Predator Lab. This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone interested in a career in biology, wildlife conservation, research, environmental science, or veterinary medicine.
If you’re interested in one of the careers I just mentioned its absolutely crucial that you get some hands on experience so you can stand out from the crowd. A job or internship with SAMPLA would certainly give you that experience.
Here’s more information about the job and how you can apply…
“My name is Enrico Gennari. I work for the South African Marine Predator Lab (SAMPLA).
We would like to inform you that a job position is available at the moment in the SAMPLA white shark research project.
The research area is Mossel Bay, in the heart of the Garden Route, and current projects are focussed on (a) Great white sharks, (b) Cape fur seals, and (c) dolphin species. The institute is an academic hotspot for some of South Africa’s most established marine biologists, as well as offering research facilities for international biologists and training for research students and project interns. You will find more information about our institute and the research projects in our website www.sampla.org
SAMPLA is looking for someone with an academic biological background and good practical skills. The work involves going out at sea with the SAMPLA interns to collect data for the different research projects. You will be asked to help also in running the research projects as well as the internship program.
During the first weeks, you will be supervised by one of the SAMPLA scientists in order to get experience in running the different research activities, namely how to collect data, work with sharks, run the research vessels, and work with the interns.
You will be provided with food, accommodation, and a starting monthly salary of 2000 South African Rand. Besides that, of paramount importance for your future career is the experience you will get during your stay at SAMPLA, since you will get first hand experience in some of the world’s most exiting research projects. You will learn techniques that seldom non-PhD students or researcher will have the chance to apply. You will experience the ups and downs of running top level research projects. Last, but not least, you will be able to work with the most charismatic and misunderstood marine top predators, the great white shark.
If you are interested, contact me at Enrico@sampla.org and I will send you the application form. Besides, if you know someone who might be interested in this job position, please feel free to forward this message.”
