During the first launch of a website, you naturally want all the content crammed into what you can get their hands on. But if the real traffic you need, consider taking a more patient approach.
Anyone involved in SEO can tell you that the organic growth of a relevant content is the most effective strategy for long term positioning on search engines. When people read this, however, their brains start the game, they do not understand or do not want to deal with "organic". What they see is "successful long-term strategy" and "positioning search engines. "And that's where the trouble starts, because it is organic growth that does the job.
What people mean when they talk about organic growth?
Organic growth means slow, steady growth continues – like plants and animals develop. When Google ranks your site they look for this pattern of growth to help determine if your site is "for real". Think of a news site you visit a lot, a forum perhaps, or a site like Wikipedia. These sites do not come overnight, chock full of content and with hundreds of links pointing to them. They started as miniatures of themselves, and as people posted messages and articles they became bigger and bigger.
How can this be used to help promote a website?
Schedule updates may be more important than the size of updates. Many webmasters are struggling to update their site regularly. They have day jobs, families, and other sites to run. This can lead to a tendency to update sites into chunks rare.
To get the maximum benefit your updates, do this: When you have time to update your site, prepare and organize your content so it can be downloaded into small pieces. Everything ready to go as the only remaining task is the real issue. Then download each piece separately, allowing one or two days to pass between each download.
By doing this for your site up with the same content, but search engines monitoring how often you update will see a pattern of stable growth. You can always write or gather your content once, just concede your Web server slowly instead of a single publication. You will not see immediate results, but give this month, one or two search engines will notice to your advantage.
