Endangered Frog Naming Auction

  • Endangered Frog Naming Auction

Have you ever wanted to name a newly discovered animal species? Well now’s your chance.

Amphibian Ark, a non-profit conservation organization started by the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums, has annouced its first “frog naming rights auction.”

The highest bid made on CharityBuzz will win the rights to name a newly discovered, endangered frog species of the genus Osornophryne. This “walking frog” is indigenous the Andes Mountains in Ecuador.

All proceeds will go toward saving one or more of the 500 most endangered amphibian species. Please consider helping Amphibian Ark in their worldwide effort to prevent the largest mass extinction since the dinosaurs.

The frog naming auction is ongoing from now until May 31, 2008. So please visit CharityBuzz now and start bidding!

    This a great idea.

Hope it has more success than the recent whale naming competition - the powers that be didn’t like ‘Mr. Splashy Pants’, so changed it despite the phenomenal popularity of the name amongst the voters. (The corporations involved didn’t see many dollar signs attached to a name like ‘Mr. Splashy Pants’.)

I hope some filthy rich tycoon sees the aution and decides to win it at all costs as proof of his undying love for his sweetheart. Be great for the environment - loads of cash and publicity for very little effort; pity for the poor old frog - forever known as Brandi.

Yes, a good idea. Things like this really could generate much needed publicity and funding. I wish Amphibian Ark well with it.

    Good post.
